Vernissage "Sudarshan Shetty – A Breath Held Long"

Esther-Bejarano-Straße 1, 56068 Koblenz

Exhibition opening

Sudarshan Shetty (*1961 in Mangalore, India) is one of the most important contemporary artists in India.

In sculptures, installations, and cross-media works, he addresses existential themes such as transience, memory, work, and spirituality. Characteristic of his work are often mechanically moved pieces, in which everyday objects become poetic symbols of time, ritual, and life cycles. Shetty combines traditional Indian imagery with a reduced, contemporary language of form. The exhibition is divided into two parts and is defined by the film "A Breath Held Long," in which Sudarshan Shetty poignantly and poetically addresses life in Mumbai. The film is accompanied by objects based on nine to ten texts by the artist, some autobiographical, some fictional, reflecting various facets of urban life.
