"Our Souls at Night" - based on the novel by Kent Haruf - is a poignant, convincingly embodied dialogue between two lonely people and the ways they seek and find to escape their isolation, against all societal conventions. Barbara Auer, born in 1959 in Constance, and Walter Sittler, born in 1952 in Chicago, are among the most renowned, award-winning actors in the German-speaking world. It is all the more surprising that they have never performed together on stage or collaborated in a TV production. When you see the two of them, you must come to the assumption that they have always done nothing but understand and complement each other in such a congenial way through words, gestures, and facial expressions, as if it had never been conceivable otherwise.
