Lesung von Dagmar Leupold: Muttermale
Johannesstr. 20, 56112 Lahnstein
How does a society reflect on itself when the guns are silent, but the wounds are still open? The Lahnstein Theater will be dedicating itself from March to an in-depth examination of the time after the catastrophe. Under the title "After the War on the Middle Rhine," a comprehensive project is starting that combines scientific analysis and artistic reflection.
The core of the series is the contemporary historical lecture series, in which experienced city archivists and private researchers will explore for five evenings between March 17 and June 23 from different local historical perspectives the question of how the end of the war in 1945 unfolded in the region between Koblenz and Kaub.
With virtuosity, care, and unwavering resolve, the native Lahnsteiner Dagmar Leupold tells of memory, origin, and foreignness.
In her novel "Muttermale," she approaches the history of her own mother: born over a hundred years ago in East Prussia, fleeing from the Red Army, and having ended up in the West of Germany through various detours. There, a new life begins in a post-war society where the war soon falls out of conversation.
Yet the experiences of flight, loss, and foreignness continue to resonate – also in the relationship between mother and daughter.
"Muttermale" is a literary attempt to draw closer. Dagmar Leupold reflects on what remains of her mother's life: photographs, everyday objects, habits, words, and sentences. Things that continue to tell her story over time.
The reading is a cooperative event between the Lahnstein City Library and the Lahnstein Theater and will take place on June 19 at 7:30 PM at the theater.
Tickets are available online on the Lahnstein Theater website, at the Lahnstein Tourist Information, or at all advance ticket sales points of Ticket Regional.
