Ev. Johanneskirche Erbach

Taunusstraße 21-23, 65343 Eltville

The Protestant Johanneskirche was built from 1861 to 1865 as the first Protestant church in the Rheingau.

The founder was Marianne of Orange-Nassau, who lived at Reinhartshausen Castle and lost her only 12-year-old son Johann Wilhelm there. In his memory, the church was built from brick, sandstone, and terracotta. To emphasize the character of a mourning church, the originally planned choir windows were omitted. These were only installed 25 years later. Noteworthy and worth hearing is the Voigt organ from 1863. With its 18 registers, it belongs to the early Romantic organs. This type of organ has a fuller sound compared to Baroque organs.
