Metropolis

With Metropolis, director Fritz Lang created one of the most significant works in film history in 1927. The newly restored version "2710" brings the visionary silent film back to the screen in impressive image quality. The monumentally staged fairy tale tells of a futuristic city where workers deep underground keep the enormous machines running, while the wealthy above lead lives full of luxury and splendor - until the fragile order threatens to collapse in a catastrophe. Metropolis was the first and remains the only film in the world to be included in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register and is still considered a milestone between pop culture and avant-garde.

A special experience will be the performance accompanied by sensational live music from Stephan Graf von Bothmer. The renowned pianist and composer has been delighting audiences on five continents for years with his spectacular silent film concerts. Whether at major festivals like the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival or at the Berlin Festival in Tempelhof Airport alongside artists like Björk, Blur, and the Pet Shop Boys - his concerts go far beyond a classic film presentation. For each film, Stephan Graf von Bothmer composes his own compelling film music that makes the emotional impact, tension, and visual language of the film intensely palpable and immediately draws the audience into the world of Metropolis.
