Discover the fascinating history of the Roman frontier as a cultural hub in the Neuwied region.

The city gallery cordially invites you to the opening of the exhibition "The Limes – a border that connects" on October 16, 2025, at 7:00 PM, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the inclusion of the Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

In collaboration with the General Directorate for Cultural Heritage of Rheinland-Palatinate and the German Limes Commission, the city gallery presents exciting insights into the history of the Roman frontier, which not only secured the Roman Empire but also served as a significant trade and customs border, making it a place of cultural exchange. The city gallery places a special focus on the Neuwied region, which played a central role in the history of this border with the fortifications in Niederbieber, Heddesdorf, and Anhausen. The exhibition addresses both locally specific aspects and the broader significance of the Limes as a connecting element between various cultures and peoples.

Experience original artifacts, fascinating archaeology, and vibrant history – and discover how the Limes functioned not only as a military barrier but also as an interface for the exchange of goods and ideas.

The exhibition can be seen from October 17 to November 16 in the former Mennonite church.
