Sekt- und Biedermeierfest in Eltville am Rhein
Burgstraße 1, 65343 Eltville am Rhein
Every year on the first weekend in July, Eltville celebrates the famous sparkling wine and Biedermeier festival along the romantic banks of the Rhine and in the courtyard of the Electoral Palace. Eltville rightly carries the nickname "Sektstadt" (Sparkling Wine City): for 150 years, sparkling wine history has been written here, and names like Matheus Müller, Mumm, and Schloss Vaux still carry the reputation of Eltville out into the world today. Naturally, the sparkling wine will take center stage when Mayor Patrick Kunkel officially opens the Eltville Sekt- and Biedermeier Festival with the obligatory start signal: the popping of a Magnum bottle cork.
At all the stands of local vintners and sparkling wine manufacturers spread throughout the festival area, from the historic Sebastian Tower to the Electoral Palace, the sparkling wine will be served, along with the exquisite wines from the vintners. In addition, there is a culinary offering that leaves no wish unfulfilled.
A stroll through the festival grounds leads along the shaded squares under the plane trees by the riverside to the vintner village in the courtyard. Stalls with handicrafts attract visitors as much as the sweet stands and a ferris wheel. Furthermore, there is a musical and dance entertainment program that is second to none. On three stages, live bands provide highlights almost around the clock for every age and musical taste.
A special highlight is the beautiful Biedermeier costumes presented by members of the local Biedermeier association. They are the particularly special, time-honored attraction that draws thousands of visitors, especially on Sunday afternoons during the "Biedermeier Stroll".
Traditionally, the sparkling wine festival concludes on Monday evening with a magnificent fireworks display launched over the Rhine.
