Museum MONREPOS Vortrag: "Das Holzidol aus dem Shigir-Moor im Ural"
Schloss Monrepos, 56567 Neuwied
by Prof. Dr. Thomas Terberger (Georg-August-University Göttingen)
The wooden idol from the Shigir Marsh, north of Yekaterinburg, is regarded as the oldest wooden sculpture in the world, dating back around 12,000 years. Prof. Dr. Thomas Terberger presents the sculpture in detail in his lecture and illustrates through this example that we - similar to the well-known stone steles at Göbekli Tepe in Anatolia - have long underestimated the complex ideas of the hunter-gatherers of that time culturally.
Cost: 5 euros per person.
