Play & Repeat - Faculty Concert Piano Improvisation

For the eighth time this year, the festival-like workshop "Play & Repeat" will take place. Four days, four instructors, four pianos – under this motto, around 20 participating pianists will tackle exciting challenges during the workshop at the State Music Academy in Engers. Folksongs, jazz standards, original melodies, as well as images, texts, natural events, and architectural artworks will be set to music. There are no limits to creativity. The three instructors Christopher Miltenberger, Helmut Lörscher, and Laurens Patzlaff, who accompany the course from the beginning, are professors at the music universities in Mainz, Freiburg, and Lübeck. The young, multiple award-winning jazz pianist Johanna Summer complements the faculty trio. All instructors belong to the most internationally renowned specialists in piano improvisation. Each follows individual improvisation approaches that have earned them an excellent reputation not only in the field of jazz. "Play & Repeat" addresses the public with two concerts: once the four instructors will present themselves in the garden hall of Schloss Engers, and at the conclusion, the participants will showcase the results of their workshop work at the University of Music in Mainz.
