Friday, September 26, 2025 Stage Braubach to Kamp-Bornhofen (approx. 18km)
The Rheinsteig takes you on a journey back to the Middle Ages. It leads directly to Marksburg, the only hill castle on the Middle Rhine that has never been destroyed. Here, the Middle Ages come to life: dark dungeons, magnificent festivity rooms, and powerful cannons tell tales of bygone times. Particularly impressive is the collection of knight armors, which vividly reflects the history of knights.
After visiting Marksburg, the path continues to the famous Rhine loop at Filsen. The Nature Trail Middle Rhine meanders through the Filsener Ley nature reserve, a sunny refuge with rare plants and animals. Educational panels along the way provide fascinating insights into the flora and fauna of the region. Finally, you reach Kamp-Bornhofen, a picturesque village with historical sights such as the St. Nicholas Church and the Von der Leyen estate. The castles Liebenstein and Sterrenberg, also known as the "Hostile Brothers," rise high above the village and offer an impressive view of the Rhine Valley.
Saturday, September 27, 2025 Stage Kamp-Bornhofen to Kestert (approx. 14 km)
Today, the Rheinsteig presents itself as a multifaceted hike: From the protected flora of the Filsener Ley, the path leads into the woods to the scenic Wilhelmshöhe. After adventurous paths and a steep descent, you reach the sturdy castles of the Hostile Brothers, before passing through a large enclosure with Exmoor ponies towards Lykershausen. With scenic views, you hike back to the ridge and until the turn-off to the day's destination, Kestert.
Sunday, September 28, 2025 Stage Kestert to St. Goarshausen (approx. 14 km)
On this stage, the Rheinsteig impressively demonstrates why it is considered one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Germany. The path takes you through the stunning Pulsbach Gorge, where the Pulsbach plunges in several waterfalls into the depths. The narrow path along the gorge requires sure-footedness and a head for heights, but rewards you with breathtaking views and a touch of adventure until you finally arrive in the small fishing village of St. Goarshausen.
Monday, September 29, 2025 Stage St. Goarshausen to Kaub (approx. 20 km)
Today, the Rheinsteig presents a mighty challenge to your endurance, as the "king's stage" features numerous ascents and descents, rocky passages, and many kilometers to cover. As a reward, the World Heritage Valley presents itself in all its glory, with grand views, tranquil valleys, rugged rocks, and of course the Lorelei plateau characterizing this breathtaking section. The stage leads over the Dreiburgenblick, from which you have an impressive view of Castle Katz, Castle Mouse, and the ruins of Rheinfels Castle. The path continues through the forest up to the Lorelei plateau, one of the most famous viewpoints on the Rhine, offering a wide view over the valley. Along the way, viewpoints and cozy spots invite you to pause. The route ends in Kaub, a picturesque town with historical sights.
