The city library offers a wide and up-to-date collection of approximately 14,000 media units covering all areas of life. Through our offerings and competent advice, we help you find what suits you best – whether it's the latest crime novel from the bestseller list, literature for a presentation topic, or information on rental law.

If the available literature is not sufficient or the desired items are not in stock, we are happy to order nationwide via the German lending service. Since 1996, there has been an online connection to the Rhineland State Library in Koblenz, providing access to about 1 million scientific media.

Additionally, the Internet can be used here for further research for a fee.

We announce our regular events and dates online and in the local press in a timely manner.

A special offer for all clubs, schools, kindergartens, and other groups:
You can borrow "media boxes" in sturdy transport boxes with your library card.

Each box contains 20-25 media. The loan period is 3 weeks and can be extended upon request.

About the history:

In Oberlahnstein, a library of the Rhineland Cultural Community was established in cooperation with the adult education center in 1947 - with permission from the French occupation.

In 1953, it was relocated to the basement of the high school building at Schiller Park, and in 1954 it was moved to the Old Town Hall on Hochstraße as the City Library of Oberlahnstein. After the high school moved to Oberheckerweg, the city library was relocated in 1975 to the former director's apartment at Gymnasialstraße corner Wilhelmstraße.

In Niederlahnstein, there was already a library before World War II; it reopened in 1951 in the "AltSchul" on Johannesstraße. Following the demolition of the building in February 1997, it was merged with the City Library of Oberlahnstein.

Since July 15, 2015, the city library has moved to the former main school "Kaiser-Wilhelm-Schule" at Kaiserplatz. The new premises are located on the first floor, where the school book lending service is now organized for the primary schools in Lahnstein.
