Römerkastell mit Römerbad Niederbieber
Auf der Alten Burg, 56567 Neuwied-Niederbieber
formerly Roman province of Upper Germania
On the land today occupied by buildings between the old and the new cemetery in the Neuwied district of Niederbieber lay one of the largest Roman fortresses on the Upper Germanic Limes, built around 190 AD, destroyed during the advance of the Franks across the Limes around 259/260 AD.
Despite later development of the site, the foundations of the huge Roman bath, which was located within the fortress rather than outside the fortifications as was customary, are now secured and provide an impression of the impressive complex.
