MONREPOS Archäolog. Forschungszentrum u. Museum für menschl. Verhaltensevolution
Schloss Monrepos, 56567 Neuwied
Once a princess castle, now an archaeological research center and museum
Monrepos (French: "My Peace") is a historic local recreation area above the Middle Rhine Valley. The former princely summer residence on the heights above the town of Neuwied is situated amidst extensive forests at the edge of the Westerwald. Here, long-distance hiking trails such as the Rheinsteig, the Limeswanderweg, and the Rheinhöhenweg intersect. Schloss Monrepos is the centerpiece of the historical ensemble of buildings of the Princes of Wied from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The new restaurant, the museum shop, and of course the romantic hiking trails offer a complete package for an unparalleled experience. The exhibition is located on the ground floor of the castle and is barrier-free.
