The Hauptfriedhof is the largest cemetery in the city of Koblenz and was consecrated in 1820. Its old trees give it a forest-like character and at the same the appearance of a country park. It covers 36ha stretching from the Beatusstrasse in the Goldgrube district to Hüberlingsweg on the Karthause

The Hauptfriedhof is the largest cemetery in the city of Koblenz and was consecrated in1820. Its old trees give it a forest-like character and at the same theappearance of a country park. It covers 36ha stretching from the Beatusstrasse in the Goldgrube district to Hüberlingsweg on the Karthause. The site rises steeply towards thesouth and is laid out in terraces. Last year the old avenue of plane trees inthe historical part of the cemetery was extensively restored. At the end of theavenue are the large cemetery cross and the chapel of mourning with itshexagonal floor plan, built in 1822 to the plans of J. C. von Lassaulx. In thehistorical part of the cemetery lie the graves of numerous prominent figuressuch as Peter Altmeier, Minister-President of Rheinland-Pfalz ; Karl Baedekerthe publisher; the poet Max von Schenkendorf and the historian Christian vonStramberg, author of the “RheinischerAntiquarius”, to name buta few. In the 1980s a tree trail was added.
