Geologischer Rheinlauf

En route from its source (in the Alps) to its mouth (North Sea), the River Rhine flows through regions of varying geological development – these areas being the Alps themselves, the Jura, the Black Forest and on the left bank of the Rhine the Vosges, followed by the Palatinate forest and Odenwald areas, the Taunus, the Hunsrück, the Westerwald, the Eifel, the Siebengebirge (the Seven Mountains) and the lower Rhine basin. 17 different rocks demonstrate some of the geological variety found along the course of the Rhine. These stones, ranging in age from 460 million years (Stone No. 5 from the Kinzig Valley) to the comparatively recent 350 thousand-year-old exhibits (stones No. 12 and 13 from the nearby eastern area of the Eifel) invite you to enjoy a geological excursion on the banks of the Rhine in Bad Hönningen.
