Surrounded by forests and vineyards, Eberbach Abbey is situated in the valley of a Rhine tributary. Ever since the abbey was founded by Saint Bernhard von Clairvaux in 1136, Cistercian monks have shaped its architecture and spirit. The Eberbach Abbey Foundation carefully and sustainably protects its cultural heritage. As shown by the events calendar and website, this heritage can be accessed in a variety of ways – when it is used as a popular meeting and event venue, for example or during tours that visitors can enjoy on their own, with a guide or using an audio guide. Eberbach Abbey also hosts concerts in its Romanesque church or in the open air, especially during the summer when it welcomes the Rheingau Music Festival. In the dormitory, film buffs can follow in the footsteps of the classic ‘The Name of the Rose’, which was filmed there. The wine cellar offers fine wines along with expert advice and if you fancy a
meal in a characteristic setting, simply visit the monastery tavern. Its reputation is based on modern interpretations of traditional monastic, local, hand-made, original and regional cuisine.
