Burg Rheinstein, 55413 Trechtingshausen

Burg Rheinstein was rebuilt in 1825 as the first Rhine castle in the spirit of 19th century Rhine romanticism. The Burgundy Garden was also created under this influence and is still considered a jewel of medieval garden art today. The garden was named after the Burgundy vine which grows there and which still bears abundant fruit despite its advanced age.

The Burgundy Garden was also created under this influence and is still considered a jewel of medieval garden art today. The garden was named after the Burgundy vine which grows there and which still bears abundant fruit despite its advanced age. The romantic garden is laid out in terraces between high walls and open battlements. It owes its charm above all to the bedding and shrub roses that bloom along the walls and borders. Oleander and angel trumpets, as well as some flowering shrubs, enrich the splendour of the flowers. Numerous wall plants, which like to grow in warm and dry locations, can be admired throughout the year. Red yarrow' lead root' lavender, mullein, lilies, stonecrop, lily of the valley and aster, to name but the most important. The large, rampant pipe wind is rarely found nowadays. The Burgundy Garden - a jewel of medieval garden art.
