Abtei Rommersdorf
Stiftsstraße 2, 56566 Neuwied
The Abbey of Rommersdorf, initially founded in 1117 as a Benedictine monastery, taken over by Premonstratensians in 1135, is the oldest settlement of this order in the territory of the old Archdiocese of Trier.
The monastery of the Premonstratensian order, established in the 12th century. The church, cloister, and other buildings provide insight into various architectural styles. Beautiful gardens, such as the herb garden in the cloister, the English garden next to the abbey, and the French garden in front of the orangery.
On Sundays and public holidays, volunteer guides lead tours at the full hour or upon request for groups of five or more through the cloister, chapter house, church, abbey chapel, and baroque halls. Although the tour is free, a contribution would help preserve the beautiful complex.
After visiting the abbey, you can enjoy coffee and cake or savory dishes while admiring the view of the French garden in the terrace café ORANGERIE.
In May, cloister concerts take place here, and in June/July, the Rommersdorf Festival is held.
