Planning in accordance with the criteria for modern certified hiking trails
The RheinSteig has been planned in accordance with modern certified hiking trails. It boasts good marking and signage and offers an attractive route mainly on natural paths and climbs. Where possible, asphalt has been avoided; the paths run predominantly through forests and rocky areas, meadows and vineyards.
The German Hiking Institute has developed criteria by which hiking trails can be designed to a high level of quality to meet the wishes of walkers.
