Signature of singer-songwriter Adjiri Odametey is his warm, earthy voice. The multi-instrumentalist masters instruments such as the thumb pianos Mbira and Kalimba, Kora, Balafon, and guitar. The SWR wrote about him in 2021: “one of the best world musicians.”
Adjiri Odametey grew up in the Ghanaian capital Accra, where people of various ethnicities have always nurtured their musical traditions. Through his overseas tours as a teenager, he encountered a wide range of styles that influenced him. Adjiri Odametey was a member of bands like the Pan African Orchestra and recorded their debut album "Opus 1" in the legendary Real World Studio of Peter Gabriel.
With his "African World Music,” Odametey created an own individual style - always aware of his West African roots. The press writes about him: “His life is a prime example of the possibilities of a cultural collision. The interest in both traditional African and modern Western influences provides a rich foundation on which his unique musical talents are based.” As an ambassador of authentic African music, he effortlessly achieves crossover.
Adjiri Odametey became well-known through the title track of his first CD “Mala.” Now he presents with “Ekonklo - on the other side” his fourth CD. He is among the most impressive representatives of African music today.
